Will the bag tear if I put heavy tiles or bricks in it?
Our woven polypropylene rubble sacks are specifically built for heavy sharp materials. The tight weave gives excellent tear resistance against bricks, tiles, stone and concrete. For extra sharp edges like glass or broken mirrors, the LDPE rubble sack with 150 micron film is the better choice as it is impervious rather than woven.
How do I close a rubble sack once it is full?
The easiest way is to use our black tie wraps (Ø80mm). Twist the top of the bag, fold it over and secure tightly with the tie wrap. For our rubble sacks with built-in cord, simply pull the cord to cinch the top closed — no separate tie wrap needed. Do not overfill past the rim as this makes closing and lifting much harder.
How much does one rubble sack hold and how many will I need?
A standard medium rubble sack (60L) holds roughly half a wheelbarrow of dense material. For a bathroom renovation stripping one room of tiles you will typically need 5 to 10 bags. For a full kitchen or larger demolition job plan for 15 to 25 bags. When in doubt order more — unused bags can be kept for your next project.
Can I put a full rubble sack in my regular bin collection?
No. Full rubble sacks with construction waste must be taken to a waste disposal facility or arranged for separate collection. They cannot be placed in standard household waste bins. Check with your local council or waste centre for the correct disposal method in your area.
Is a rubble sack cheaper than hiring a skip?
Yes in most cases. A skip hire typically costs between €150 and €400 depending on size and location, plus a permit if placed on a public road. Rubble sacks cost from €0.29 per bag and you only pay for what you use. For smaller jobs like a bathroom strip-out or garden clearance, rubble sacks are almost always the more economical choice.
Can I use rubble sacks for wet sand or soil?
Yes but choose the right type. LDPE rubble sacks are impervious and handle wet or moist materials like sand, soil and wet gravel without leaking. Standard woven polypropylene sacks are porous and not ideal for very fine or wet material that could sift through the weave. For wet sand always use LDPE.
When is a big bag better than a rubble sack?
A big bag (FIBC) makes more sense when you have 500kg or more of material, when you need to use a forklift or crane to lift the waste, or when you need to fill a skip container. For most DIY and small trade jobs a standard rubble sack is easier to handle, cheaper per unit and requires no lifting equipment.
Are cheap rubble sacks worth it or will they break?
All our rubble sacks are made from quality woven polypropylene or LDPE and are tested for their rated load. The difference between models is thickness and liner type, not a quality compromise. Avoid very cheap unbranded bags from unknown sources as these often have thinner weave and fail under load. Our bags from €0.29 are a proven choice used across European construction sites.
